Asthma UK is the charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the 5.4 million people in the UK whose lives are affected by asthma. We exist to reduce the impact of asthma on people’s lives and as the only national charity dedicated to asthma in the UK, Asthma UK has an important responsibility to tackle the issues affecting people with asthma today, and to conduct research that will lead to a better future for people affected by asthma tomorrow. For more information please visit our website at http://www.asthma.org.uk.
Over the past few decades our understanding of asthma has increased dramatically. And, thanks to improved treatments and a greater understanding of how they should be used, the number of deaths from asthma has slowly fallen. However, asthma still kills three people every day in the UK and millions of people live in fear of catching a cold or breathing in pollen, knowing that these things can cause their asthma to spiral out of control. Our role as a major funder of asthma research in the UK, spending over £50 million to date, therefore remains as important as ever, and the charity's new 2016-21 Research Strategy (hyperlink https://www.asthma.org.uk/research/strategy/) with the 15 key priority areas identified by the European Asthma Research and Innovation Partnership (hyperlink https://earip.eu/) has enormous potential to bring about our vision of control over asthma today, freedom from asthma tomorrow.
